The most beautiful place I have visited is the island of Barbados. A rum punch in one hand whilst surrounded by a sparkling turquoise ocean and coconut palm trees lining the warm sandy beach… it really was like staying in paradise. But it wasn’t the lazing by the pool experience that I was after. There is so much to do especially in the bustling capital of Bridgetown. The nightlife in Barbados is like nothing I have experienced before, where dancing on bar tops is encouraged.
My favourite experience, though, is going for a helicopter tour around the island. It truly was breathtaking. Our pilot took us along the Caribbean coastline where we got to see old sunken shipwrecks preserved within the clear and calm waters. This was in complete contrast to the East coast which the locals affectionately name Little Scotland due to its limestone rocks and extremely choppy waters.
The pace of life in Barbados is exactly how it appears on the Malibu adverts – relaxed, fun and carefree, really and truly!

Tea from around the world
Like many Brits, I simply cannot function properly in the morning until I’ve had at least two cups of this caffeinated nectar.
Cheese from around the world
Whether your love of cheese only extends to a mild cheddar or you’re a cheese connoisseur, you might want to look out for these cheeses on your travels. You never know, you may expand your taste buds and discover a maggot-ridden fromage to adorn your pizza instead of traditional mozzarella!
A brief history of fireworks around the world
Most people associate Bonfire Night with the story of Guy Fawkes’ failed attempt at blowing up the Houses of Parliament with gunpowder. But did you know that fireworks are thought to have been invented by accident long before the invention of gunpowder?
Bizarre ice cream flavours from around the world
The meaning of the phrase “ice cream” varies from one country to another, with terms such as gelato, frozen yoghurt and sorbet being used to describe the variations and styles. There is some speculation over where and when ice cream was invented. Some historians consider it was created in the Persian Empire when people would pour fruit juices over snow, whilst others believe it has origins in China in 200 BC. Vanilla may be the most popular ice cream flavour of all time, but if you fancy something a little more adventurous why not try one of these unusual flavours whilst on your travels.
